Wow, this was one of the best two day workshops I have ever done.
I think everyone thinks that they get how lighting works, but spend two days with Urs and he will open your eyes to a new world of light and it may not be the easiest way, but it will give a more interesting effect. I have gone away from the workshop with a better understanding on how the light will graduate around the object.
Day 1
Group 2 had to understand soft boxes on a model. What happens when you use a small soft box and a large one up close and far away to the model. We had to watch for changes on the skin and in the eyes and the graduation of light around the models face. This understanding of hard light, soft light and how the light graduates around the model. This can be used in almost any shot to give you a three dimensional image.
Next, was to freeze a vodka bottle falling into water. Both the bottle and the splash had to be sharp in the image. With all the challenges of shooting glass and light at high speed focus and depth of field, played a big part in the execution of the shot. With a little help for Urs in understanding the flash output, the shot was achievable. Great work Group 2.
Day 2 to be added ...
